Sylvie in Antarctica

The NZ Antarctic Heritage Trust Inspiring Explorers Expedition 2017

Ascent of Mt Scott

I’m Sylvie, a part-time adventurer about to embark on the trip of a lifetime. This blog will cover the lead up, execution and lessons learnt from the Expedition. It will also attempt to shed some light on how I got here and why getting up really early to smoosh bits of metal into a rock face makes me smile.

Rock climbing at Mt Arapiles, Australia, 2016

On the 13th of February 2017 I will leave on a 2 week expedition to Antarctica with the Antarctic Heritage Trust with the aim of climbing Mt Scott and inspiring others to explore our world.

Mt Scott, 880m

From Auckland, our team of 7 will fly to Buenos Aires and then on to Ushuaia, at the tip of the South American continent.

In Ushuaia we will board the Akademik Ioffe and join One Ocean Expeditions, an adventure tourism company, on their journey to the Antarctic Peninsula.

Weather permitting, we will camp on the glacier and ascend Mt Scott before heading back to Ushuia and flying home to New Zealand.
